Ever since I went to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which was held at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi from December 9-12, 2021, I’ve been mezmerised by the world of motorsports, and especially Formula 1 (F1) and Formula 2 (F2).

Now, I watch Formula 1 races on all the weekends, wherever they are held around the world like millions of other F1 fans around the globe!!!!!!!! And I’m also glad I share this passion with my dad and uncle (although they both support the same team, and I don’t 🙄😁).

This is how it started-

My father was mentioning that he wanted to go to the Abu Dhabi GP atleast once before we leave UAE and although I was excited as I’d never been to a racing event before, I didn’t take it that seriously. December 9, 2021, was the last day of school before our 3 week winter break. That day was a Thursday, and the last day of the week (Fridays & Saturdays were our weekends, though from January 2022, UAE started to have a four-and-a-half day working week, so school used to get over exactly 11:50am on Fridays, and school starting again on Mondays), and my mother told me from the next day and till Sunday we’d be going to watch the race.

The first time we went was on December 10, and although it was pretty late by the time we reached back home (Yas Island was a bit far from where we lived), I did search a bit about the sport and managed to get a few names in my head.

We got our seats in the main grandstand, opposite the podium and the pitlane, so we were able to see the garages of Mercedes drivers Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton and even when they came to change their tyres, in the middle of the race. So, I was trying to remember at least both these names and Max Verstappen (as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton were fighting for the World Championship Title in 2021). The moment I woke up the next morning, I tried recalling these names 😁😅.

Before the World Championship was set to begin, there was a Drivers’ Track Parade and I couldn’t identify anyone, except the three names I had tried to remember. Once the #AbuDhabiGP ended, I tried to understand the sport that I suddenly had my entire mind on. When I was able to remember the teams and drivers and was writing my post on the World Championship, I went through the photos of the truck parade again, and that’s when I was like, ”I’ve seen ‘former World Champions like Kimi Räikkönen and Sebestian Vettel!!!!”. After some time, I thought, ”you know what, I’ve seen all twenty drivers on the grid”!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Pretty normal for someone who goes annually, but a completely new experience for a newbie like me.

Although we lived in Abu Dhabi for 4 years, we went to the Grand Prix only once. That’s why I’d really miss not being able to go this year.

Honestly speaking, when I was reading my 3 write-ups on the AbuDhabiGP, I felt I didn’t really explain a lot and jot down my experience, so that’s what I tried to do in this post.
