Dinner at ‘The Marina’, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India…

Hi Everyone! It’s been quite a long time since we had any post related to food. So in this post, I’m gonna share the pics I took of the appetizing food at ‘The Marina’, a seafood themed restaurant located in College Road, in the coastal city Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

You can dine in either in the ground floor or first floor of the restaurant, after choosing what you’d like to relish, from the different types of fresh sea food laid out on ice, in the ground floor. The restaurant opens at 7pm in the evening, and as we happened to be the first ones, we could see live crabs in a tall glass box.

During our trip to Indonesia in 2014, we stopped at Jimbaran in Bali, to enjoy the beach and as a bonus, we had dinner there with fresh seafood to choose from. As that was an open beach, the eye catchy display was on a larger scale when compared to this restaurant. Jimbaran is a beach converted into a tourist spot, where you can hear the waves splashing while enjoying your meal.

From the options available, we selected the Hamoor fish, Indian salmon, fresh tiger prawns and crab, for both starters and main course, for the six of us. We were already introduced to the Hamoor fish which belongs to the Middle Eastern region while living in the UAE, so I wanted to taste it in Chennai as I haven’t had it since we left UAE last year. After selecting the seafood, we took our seats in the first floor.

As per the customer’s wish, they make the selected seafood into curries or starters, in the Chettinadu or Tandoori way, or the Chinese or Mediterranean way, where the fish is steamed, along with mild spices.

Starters…

For the starters we had tiger prawns and the fish fillets- each made two ways. We had also ordered crab.

The staff at the restaurant suggested us to try the crab in two different ways. So we had half the crab cooked dry with spices, similar to the consistency of ‘puttu’, one of my favourite South Indian breakfasts, and the other half in a thick gravy…

the crab dishes…

Out of the two crab dishes, my vote goes to the crab in the thick gravy. It was a great combo with the Kal Dosai/traditional pancakes made on a cast iron pan, that we got along with our main course.

Main Course…

We ordered Malabar fish curry and Prawn curry cooked in the Chettinadu way.

The Kal Dosai along with the Malabar fish curry…

The Malabar fish curry, belonging to the Southern Indian state of Kerala, had a strong taste of coconut milk in the curry and was again a great combo with the Kal Dosai.

We also ordered Malabar Parotta and Ghee Rice, though I didn’t have rice as I was full and had to save space for dessert😄.

For dessert, I ordered a Spanish Tres Leches as I had never tried it before.

In the end, we got a Kesar Pista Kulfi…

We saw this beautiful drawing on the way down from the first floor, well fit with the theme of the restaurant.
